Janet (Glasgow)
Work mates and I completed the Lochalsh Dirty 30 Challenge route in June and raised £1,356.00 for our chosen charity. We had a fantastic, fun time and the scenery was fantastic (even saw a sea eagle :-) ).
Paul Colborn (Oban)
A big thank you to everyone involved in the organising and running of the event! My second time here and saw a few familiar faces and some new ones. (Hello Mr Sticky!) I guess trying to jog round was a mistake...but still had a great day. Looking forward to next year and hoping the weather is kind to us again. Thanks.
jean (uddingston)
Hi, just wanted to say after our glass of red wine and bowl of chips with David and Katie at the hotel, we had a really good time. Sorry I kept you all back. We will be back next year to better our time......well maybe! left early on Sunday and did not get a chance to say bye to our new friends, have tried on face book to no avail. Anyway thanks again and can I just suggest a "wee" medal would go down well, as after completing a 10k at least you have a wee momento of the occassion and hard work. Albeit the certificate is nice.
Laurence Tait (Orkney)
This was my first shot at the Dirty 30. I decided to do it for a bit of a challenge, and having grown up in Lochalsh, it was also a chance for a trip home. Two or three times during the walk I did find myself thinking "what are you doing?", but on the whole I enjoyed it. A special mention must go to Dee, Garry, Lorne, Sue, Ann, Keith and the two folk from Broadford Youth Hostel (sorry, can't remember your names) for keeping me sane at various points along the way! Muscles and feet have now fully recovered, and I haven't ruled out another go next year!
David MacLeod (Glasgow)
It's been a week now and I'm still trying to grow a new pair of feet. Can't believe they hurt so much more when you've finished the walk. A lot of people will be under the impression that I struggled to get to the end, far from it. I was just savouring the scenery for almost 16 hours. I was told "you have to see Glen Elg at night" hence I slowed down for a deliberate finishing time of ten to one on SUNDAY. Some lessons were learned. Being UNDER 20 stones is definitely an advantage. Studying the route beforehand is a must. (nobody mentioned a mountain at 17 miles - well it was a mountain to me) Don't ever let your spirits get raised during the walk, because round the next bend they'll be dashed. Seriously, it was fantastic to be part of such a great event. The organisation was first class from start to finish. Massive thanks to Alison, Fiona and Ian who saw me home with a combination of nursing, encouragement, coaxing and downright telling big fibs. (If I had a pound for every time they said "it's just around this next corner" boy would I be rich) Thanks also to Davie and Hazel for waiting up for us at the B & B. Apologies to my walking partner Ian for holding him back, although technically his name should be at the bottom of the results as he held the door of the hotel open for me and came in behind me. I was so sure I would never do anything like this again that I threw my boots away, and yet now, one week on and still suffering, there's a peculiar yearning coming over me......
Ian McWhirter (Tibbermore)
Great day out and for us evening and early morning. Finished around 1am, will be doing it again next year because I think I can shave a couple of hundredths of my time. Would like to thank Ian, Alison and Fiona (the sweepers) for helping us on to the finish. When I say June 11th 2011 is just round the next corner I hope they know what I mean, except to Ian who I would honestly say "its miles away and all up hill".
Alan.Johnstone (Glenrothes Fife)
Thanks again to everyone for a great day out, blisters have healed now. Search in youtube for Dirty30 2010 for a short video of the day. Will probably be back next year with another plan!!
james meehan (inverness)
Thankyou for yet again a wonderful event . My apologies for not being able to hang around for long after .Went home to nurse some bruising from fall. I particularly enjoyed having to navigate around a herd of cows near the bothy, not sure who was wary of whom . The small hill in the village was a stroke of genius (couldnt recall that last year).Congratulations to everyone in participating. jim
Lesley and Alan Woolfries (Glasgow)
Thank you to all the organisers, volunteers and other participants for making the 2010 Hike very memorable. This was our second year taking part. Last year we promised never to do it again but the rush of relief and achievement crossing the finishing line is adictive. We beat our time this year by 1 hr 35 mins so we were very pleased and slightly more worn around the edges!!! 11 hours and 11 minutes...may be 10 hrs something next year!!! Thanks again for a life enhancing experience.
LINSEY & ALAN JOHNSTONE (GLENROTHES,FIFE)
THIS YEAR WAS OUR FIRST ATTEMPT AT WHAT PROVED TO BE MORE THAN 'JUST A VERY LONG WALK'.IT WAS GREAT TO BE PART OF SUCH AN EVENT WHICH ALTHOUGH LEFT THE BODY ACHING AND YOUR FEET SCREAMING 'WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO US!'WAS IMMENSELY ENJOYABLE AND ALTHOUGH I HAVE LOST A TOE NAIL CANT WAIT TO TRY IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR !!(HOWEVER TACTICS WILL BE USED FROM LESSONS LEARNED).WHAT MADE THE DAY SO EXTRA SPECIAL WAS THE PARTICIPATION OF SO MANY LOCAL FOLKS. WE LOVED THE JELLY BABY STOP(WELL DONE GIRLS FOR STANDING IN THE RAIN FOR US),THE BREAKFAST GANG AND MOST OF ALL THE HOMEBAKING AT THE END OF THE DAY - BRILL. RECEIVING A CLAP ON OUR RETURN WAS WORTH MORE THAN ANY MEDAL AND FINISHED THE DAY PERFECTLY, WE FELT SO PLEASED WITH OURSELVES - ESPECIALLY AS I BEAT MY HUBBY BY 1 MNUTE. WE FULLY INTEND TO BE THERE IN 2010 AND HOPE TO HAVE ENTICED SOME NEWBIES TO COME WITH US. PS WHATS HAPPENED TO THE PICS THE RAF HELICOPTER TOOK?
